Pastoral Plan banner.jpg

"The good news of Salvation is the message that the Church is tasked to bring to the whole world. This call to mission is at the very heart of our Diocesan Pastoral Plan. The renewal of our parish structures is for the very purpose of enabling us all – lay faithful, religious, deacons, priests and bishop – to take our proper place in the great mission that the Lord has given to us."

[Bishop Richard, Pastoral Letter on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, 10th January, 2025]

What will 'success' look and feel like?

The "Word who is Life" is the fruit of several years’ work in Arundel & Brighton and represents a vision for building the Kingdom of Heaven in our parishes through a hugely ambitious process of change that must be inspired by the Holy Spirit. "Success" will be the existence of thriving, growing spirit-filled communities that live this vision.

Some elements of the Plan may be achieved quickly, but many will take time to come to fruition across our communities. Over the coming months and years the Plan aims to build communities with a stronger focus on the Mission of the Church, to bring the Good News of Salvation to the whole world, and we pray that we will see:

Communities re-committed to the celebration of the Eucharist
Clear local plans for developing prayer, formation and mission
A strong and mutually supportive clergy team in each Parish
Wide expansion of lay leadership, participation and engagement as people respond to their baptismal calling
New ways of doing things within and across communities
A diocese restructured into 11 new Parishes, each with multiple local communities
Freeing up priests from administrative responsibilities to focus on celebrating the eucharist, preaching, serving local pastoral needs, and leading parish communities
Bringing together some resources (e.g. property, IT) to better serve the mission
